Professional Engineer Scholarship Recipients Contribute to a Sustainable
Canadian Future
OTTAWA, Oct. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - Whether they realize it or not, Canadians see the benefit of the work engineers do every day. From developing environmentally friendly products to creating life-saving medical devices and building safer buildings, roads and bridges, engineers are concerned with the quality and safety of these innovations so Canadians don't have to be.
Engineers Canada, along with Manulife Financial and TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, is honoured to once again award seven Canadian engineers with scholarships in support of their great potential to contribute to the everyday lives of Canadians.

"It is very rewarding to acknowledge engineers who are building on their backgrounds and demonstrating the ingenuity, resourcefulness and skills that are fundamental to the engineering profession."
For years, Manulife Financial and TD Insurance Meloche Monnex have joined Engineers Canada in rewarding outstanding engineers who build on their engineering background by returning to school to pursue advanced academic studies.

The scholarship recipients are working on a range of projects with the goals of: improving energy sustainability on farms; investigating cleaner and more cost-effective solid oxide fuel cell technology; creating an advanced composite material for use in aircraft turbine engines; becoming a technology strategist; improving our understanding of the environmental implications of the energy sector; creating better growing conditions in salt-affected areas by flushing salts from the soil; and developing a sound understanding of social policy and governance.
This year's scholarship recipients are:
Engineers Canada-Manulife Financial Scholarships for those returning to university for further study or research in an engineering field. Valued at $12,500.
- Julie A. Bailey, P.Eng., Engineers Nova Scotia, pursuing her PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies at Dalhousie University - Mark J. Cuglietta, P.Eng., APEGGA, pursuing his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto - Giovanni (John) Montesano, P.Eng., PEO, pursuing his PhD in Aerospace Engineering at Ryerson University
Engineers Canada-TD Insurance Meloche Monnex Scholarships for those returning to university for further study or research in a field other than engineering. Valued at $7,500.
- Allan Alfonso, P.Eng., PEO, pursuing his Master of Business Administration degree at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario - Alesya Bajoria, P.Eng., APEGGA, pursuing a Master of Business Administration in Natural Resources, Energy and Environment degree at the University of Alberta - Michael V. Callaghan, MSc, P.Eng., APEGGA, undertaking a PhD in Geoscience at the University of Calgary in the field of environmental remediation
Engineers Canada-TD Insurance Meloche Monnex Léopold Nadeau Scholarship for those returning to university for further study or research in the area of public policy development. Valued at $10,000.
- Brett Kristina Stevenson, P.Eng., APEGGA, pursuing a Master of Public Administration inPublic and Nonprofit Management and Policy degree with an international specialization at the Wagner School of Public Service at New York University
