OTTAWA, Oct. 2, 2012 /CNW/ - Engineers Canada is honoured to announce the 2012 Engineers Canada Scholarships recipients. The seven annual scholarships are provided through the generous support of Manulife Financial and TD Insurance Meloche Monnex.
This year's recipients are pursuing advanced studies to build on their engineering education and conduct research that will make positive contributions to the health and prosperity of Canadians in areas such as infrastructure, climate change, healthcare and energy.
"They may not realize it, but Canadians see the benefit of the work engineers do every day," said Engineers Canada President Catherine Karakatsanis, FEC, FCAE, P.Eng. "We are proud to support our scholarship recipients as they develop tools, technologies and contribute research that will improve the lives of Canadians."

"The 2012 scholarship recipients are working on a range of projects that include: mineral carbon storage and its integration into mineral processing operations; vibration-based structural health monitoring tool to study the movements of bridges; thermal simulation tools in climate engineering; researching leadership within the context of engineering project management; adding an engineering perspective to healthcare; combining engineering and legal knowledge to more effectively respond to challenges in the energy industry; and econometric research to help governments understand the social, environmental and economic impacts of drinking water investment.
The 2012 scholarship recipients are:
Engineers Canada-Manulife Financial Scholarships ($12,500):
- Erin R. Bobicki, P.Eng., APEGA/PEO, pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta;
- Serge L. Desjardins, P.Eng., Engineers and Geoscientists New Brunswick, pursuing a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Carleton University;
- Mark Pauls, P.Eng., APEGM, pursuing a M.Sc. in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Danube University Krems, Austria.
Engineers Canada-TD Insurance Meloche Monnex Scholarships ($7,500):
- Isabelle Bonneau, ing., M.Sc.A, MBA, OIQ, pursuing a Ph.D. in Administration at l'Université du Québec à Montréal;
- Elizabeth Isenor, BSc, B.Eng., P.Eng., APEGA, pursuing a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Calgary;
- Henry Ren, P.Eng., APEGA, pursuing a Juris Doctor at the University of Toronto.
Engineers Canada-TD Insurance Meloche Monnex Léopold Nadeau Scholarship ($10,000):
- Anna Michelle Robak, P.Eng., CPEng, Engineers and Geoscientists New Brunswick, pursuing a Ph.D. in Business and Economics, specializing in public infrastructure investments, at the University South Australia in Adelaide, Australia.
