Profiting from innovation requires specific commercialization skills
Commercialization Skills Profile identifies talents needed to cash in on creative ideas
OTTAWA, July 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Entrepreneurs and business operators need four skill sets to turn innovative ideas into commercially viable products and services. These include business management, capital-raising, collaboration and networking, and sales and marketing.
The Conference Board of Canada's online Commercialization Skills Profile is a skills blueprint for entrepreneurs, business leaders, human resources managers, and educators.
"The Commercialization Skills Profile highlights the role that skills, attitudes, and behaviours play in the commercialization process," said Douglas Watt, Director, Organizational Effectiveness and Learning Research. "It brings to the forefront the skills for business strategy, finance, market understanding, value assessment, customer relations, sales, and business development."
Developed with input from businesses, governments, industry associations and learning institutions across Canada, the Commercialization Skills Profile builds on the Innovation Skills Profile 2.0. Both are products of the Conference Board's Centre for Business Innovation (CBI), a five-year initiative that is helping to bring about major improvements in firm-level business innovation in Canada.
The next major CBI publication is the 2012 Survey Findings: The State of Firm-Level Innovation in Canada. It will be released on July 16.
