Progressives to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the passing of Jack Layton
TORONTO, Aug. 22, 2016 /CNW/ - Hundreds of progressives will join with Jack Layton's family today, Monday, August 22, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the passing of our dear friend, Jack.
The memorial will take place in the beautiful Riverdale Park West from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., across the street from Necropolis – Jack's final resting place.
Olivia Chow, Councillor Mike Layton, Councillor Pam McConnell, Jennifer Hollett, and Duke Redbird will share heart-felt tributes. Attendees will be invited to reminisce and pledge their commitment to continue their work in progressive change. The evening will end with a peaceful procession to Jack's grave at the Necropolis.
"We know we are stronger together when we are united in our desire to build a better world through love, hope and optimism," says Olivia Chow, widow of the beloved Jack Layton and a distinguished visiting professor at Ryerson University.
"Join our family in remembrance of my dad, as we continue to make a difference in our communities," adds Jack's son Mike Layton.
