Minister Joly announces enhanced support for the Canada Music Fund so Canadian musicians can increase their international profile
GATINEAU, QC, April 2, 2017 /CNW/ - The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced that an additional investment of $4.15 million will be injected into the Canada Music Fund (CMF) to further promote Canadian artists abroad. This announcement comes just prior to the JUNO Awards, a celebration of Canadian musical talent. It reaffirms the Government's commitment to promote Canadian culture and creativity on the world stage, as announced in Budget 2016.
Approximately 100 artists will directly benefit from this funding, which will enable them to increase their discoverability in the global digital market and reach new audiences abroad. Promotion through touring, marketing, showcases and access to events is critical to getting Canadian artists in front of international audiences and businesses.
The Government of Canada recognizes that Canadian cultural industries represent a key sector of our economy. Opening new markets for creators and cultural industries will contribute to inclusive growth, create jobs and strengthen the middle class and helping those working hard to join it.
