Proposed Board of Western Wind Plans to Engage CIBC World Markets Inc. and Cormark Securities Inc. as Financial Advisors
TORONTO, Aug. 8, 2012 /CNW/ - ((TSX Venture Exchange: WND) (OTCQX: WNDEF)) The nominees of Savitr Capital, LLC ("Savitr") to the board of Western Wind Energy Corp. ("Western Wind" or the "Company") are pleased to announce that, if elected to the Company's board of directors at the annual general meeting of shareholders on September 25, 2012 (the "Meeting"), they plan to engage CIBC World Markets Inc. ("CIBC") and Cormark Securities Inc. ("Cormark") as financial advisors to the Company. The financial advisors have significant mergers and acquisitions experience and expertise, particularly in the renewable power sector, and would manage a responsible strategic review and sale process for the Company and/or its assets.
Parties wishing to register interest in a potential purchase of the Company or assets of the Company following the election of the proposed board at the Meeting are invited to contact Savitr Capital, LLC ("Savitr"). The engagement of the financial advisors is subject to the Company, CIBC and Cormark entering into a formal engagement agreement on standard industry terms.
"We are encouraged by the support for our initiative. However, we remain dissatisfied with the direction being set by the current board and management of Western Wind," said Andrew Midler, a director nominee to the board of Western Wind and managing member of Savitr. He continued, "The support of shareholders strengthens our resolve to focus on the path forward. We plan to set in motion all measures needed for a responsible strategic review and sale process immediately after the annual general meeting. We believe that it would be contrary to the best interests of shareholders for the Company to enter into any non-project commitments in advance of this annual general meeting, including any long term commitments with additional financial or other advisors."
Savitr also applauds the efforts of shareholders who spoke out against the dilutive and speculative Champlin/GEI transaction. We are very pleased that the Company has abandoned this idea.
Savitr announced on July 31 its intention to nominate Mr. C. Winston Bennett, Mr. Andrew Midler, Mr. George Smitherman, Mr. William R. Tharp and Ms. Rita Theil at the Company's upcoming Meeting.
Proxies for the Meeting will be solicited by or on behalf of Savitr pursuant to an information circular that will be prepared by Savitr, mailed to all shareholders and filed on SEDAR well in advance of the upcoming Meeting.
