Prostate Cancer Canada set to lead the way in Research
PCC assembles expert advisory panel to advance prostate cancer research
TORONTO, March 15, 2012 /CNW/ - Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) is proud to announce that it has formed a Research Advisory Panel to best facilitate and aid in implementing a national research strategy. The panel is made up of some of the greatest minds in prostate cancer from all across the country and, as a result of the success of Movember, will be able to increasingly fund top tier, game-changing research through PCC.
PCC aims to dramatically transform the prostate cancer research environment in Canada. It will accomplish this by strategically ramping up the quality and quantity of research, and providing an opportunity for Canadian prostate cancer researchers to have a substantial impact on the cause, treatment, and cure of the disease.
"We have a real opportunity to make a difference in the fight against prostate cancer and this is a responsibility our organization does not take lightly' said Steve Jones, President and CEO of Prostate Cancer Canada. "Over the next several months, our Research Advisory Panel will be undertaking a gap analysis and environmental scan to help determine where best to strategically allocate the available dollars. At national, provincial and local levels, the funding available is presenting exciting opportunities."
The Research Advisory Panel will be chaired by Dr. Laurence Klotz, MD, FRCS(C).The panel is comprised of approximately 30 members from across Canada, with expertise in all areas of prostate cancer research (see full list at prostatecancer.ca/researchpanel). The group's key mandate is to guide the development of a strategic plan for PCC to allocate funds to the most promising programs.
"The substantial increase in funds for prostate cancer research is an opportunity for all of us," says Dr. Klotz. "Thanks to funds raised, we will advance the cause against prostate cancer in significant and meaningful ways. While realizing PCC's goal of becoming a global leader in the fight, we will be funding research that will uncover better diagnostic and treatment options and provide comprehensive support services for those living with the disease."
The strategic plan will be developed and unveiled within the next three to four months.
