MONTREAL, Aug. 30, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal residents can help quench their gardens' thirst for the rest of the summer and at the same time, help the local watershed.
Coca-Cola Canada is donating 100 concentrate barrels converted to rain water harvesting barrels to Regroupement des éco-quartiers, a city-funded organization dedicated to promoting responsible water stewardship in Montreal.
Rain barrels can help reduce water bills, conserve water during dry periods and lessen polluted run-off. The reuse of these 55-gallon concentrate barrels will help in the effort to protect local watersheds.
"Water is the primary ingredient in our beverages and we recognize our responsibility to protect this precious resource and making a positive difference in our local communities," says Christina De Toni, Director, Public Affairs and Communications, Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada. "Converting our concentrate barrels into rain barrels is a tangible and effective way to inspire change to preserve our water resources."
"Coca-Cola Canada's donation helps Montréal residents make our community more sustainable and greener with their own personal contributions through rain harvesting," explained Nicolas Montpetit, the Regroupement's coordinator. "We applaud Coca-Cola Canada's efforts in giving back to the community they operate in and encourage our residents to purchase a rain barrel."
Residents interested in purchasing a rain barrel can contact Regroupement des éco-quartiers by telephone at 514-507-5401 or online at www.eco-quartiers.org
