Coca-Cola Canada Donates Rain Barrels to FortWhyte Alive
WINNIPEG, April 25, 2014 /CNW/ - Coca-Cola Canada is donating 300 beverage concentrate barrels converted to rain harvesting barrels to FortWhyte Alive, a longstanding advocate of environmental stewardship.
Rain barrels can help reduce water bills, conserve water during dry periods, and lesson polluted run-off. The reuse of these 170-litre barrels will help in the effort to protect Winnipeg's local watersheds.
"Water is vital to communities, to the economy, to the world and to our business," said Togarapari Chinoda, Plant Manager, Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada Winnipeg facility. "We're always working to conserve water, reduce the amount of water we use per liter of product we produce, support community water programs like those at FortWhyte Alive."
This is the third year of Coca-Cola Canada's partnership with FortWhyte Alive. Coca-Cola Canada has donated almost 900 rain barrels since 2012. The barrels are for sale in the FortWhyte Alive gift shop, by phone at (204) 989-8355 or online at www.fortwhyte.org/rainbarrels
"We are pleased to partner with Coca-Cola Canada to increase water conservation in Winnipeg," stated Bill Elliott, President & CEO, FortWhyte Alive. "Working together, we can engage more Winnipeg families in environmental protection for generations to come."
Coca-Cola Canada's goal is to improve its water efficiency in manufacturing operations by 25% by 2020.
