MONTREAL, April 8, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Today the Chambre des notaires du Québec unveiled a new visual identity and branding strategy in order to better assert its mission of protecting the public. Now, the Chambre des notaires will be identified with a new version of its exclusive and distinctive logo, updating a symbol that has been used since 1987 by most notaries to identify both themselves and their professional offices.
"Under the Professional Code, the mission of a professional order is to protect the public who calls upon the services of a professional," stated Jean Lambert, a notary and the president of the Chambre des notaires du Québec. "It is crucial that in the eyes of the public there is no doubt or ambiguity about the foremost mission of our Order which should not be confused with that of a professional association. The new logo of the Chambre must help make this basic distinction."
We should point out that a survey conducted last fall for the Conseil interprofessionnel du Québec showed that only 11 % of Quebecers believed that professional orders protect the public, while 39 % believed that they protect their members, whereas 50 % of respondents were undecided about the role of monitoring bodies in regulated professions.
The Office des professions du Québec reacted to these figures. Last December, Notary Jean-Paul Dutrisac, president of the OPQ, told a gathering of leaders of professional orders: "This paradox about the professional system, among other issues, - forty years after its inception - does not leave us indifferent."
"I am pleased to participate in the unveiling of the new branding of the Chambre des notaires du Québec. It reaffirms its unique personality and the dynamic character of its activities of serving the public and the profession itself," commented Minister of Justice Bertrand St- Arnaud.
As part of this strategy, in mid-April the Chambre is poised to launch a new web site backed by an advertising campaign featuring well-known comedian Pierre Légaré. It encourages people to insert the word "notary" in their Internet queries to gain access to credible and reliable legal information.
