PSORIASIS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN OFFERS RELIEF TO DRY WINTER SKIN
OTTAWA, Oct. 19 /CNW/ - Outside the temperature is dropping and many Canadians are finding themselves with red, itchy, dry skin. Dermatologists believe one reason could be psoriasis. The Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) is launching a Psoriasis Awareness Campaign to give sufferers the advice they need to cope with this chronic inflammatory skin condition.
Psoriasis affects 1 million Canadians and 80 million people worldwide, and the cooler weather this time of year can adversely impact psoriasis sufferers because it further dries out the skin.
CDA has created new public education materials and online content to help sufferers understand, manage and control this inflammatory condition. The new resources will provide sufferers with answers to common myths, explain triggers that cause flares, as well as treatment options to discuss with their dermatologist.
The Canadian Dermatology Association will be providing public service announcements (PSA) about the program to radio stations across Canada. The PSA, which was produced in both English and French, highlight common symptoms, myths, the prevalance of this condition and where one can go to get the facts about this skin disease: www.dermatology.ca
Other free sources of information that are part of the campaign include:
- Psoriasis Brochure (in English, French): available at dermatologists' and other health care professionals' offices.
- New section of the CDA website: www.dermatology.ca/psoriasis provide detailed information about the causes, treatment and skin care tips for psoriasis sufferers.
