THUNDER BAY, ON, Oct. 25, 2018 /CNW/ - Public health nurses are leaving their picket line at the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to greet Premier Doug Ford as he visits a local pulp and paper mill on Thursday morning.
While campaigning in April, Mr. Ford promised that: "The first thing we're going to do is listen to health-care professionals, including the nurses and doctors who are on the front lines."
Nurses agree that more resources need to be allocated to front-line health care.
"These dedicated public health nurses are concerned about their community and want to be delivering the services and care that they know the community needs to remain safe and healthy," said Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) President Vicki McKenna, RN.
Rebecca Bridgman, RN, ONA Bargaining Unit President for Thunder Bay District public health nurses said, "We're hoping the Premier will take a moment out of his busy day to stop to hear our concerns, and to help us return to the work that is vital to our communities and important to all of us as public health nurses."
ONA is the union representing more than 65,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 18,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
