QUÉBEC, March 15, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - As announced on December 13, 2017, the Panel of Experts on Automobile Insurance Contributions will be holding two days of public hearings at which the groups that filed briefs regarding the amendments to insurance contributions proposed by the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) for 2019 to 2021 have been invited to speak.
The first day of public hearings will be held in Montréal on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in the Jasmin Room at the Holiday Inn Montréal Centreville Downtown, located at 99, Viger Ouest. The Panel of Experts will hear from two groups during the first day of hearings. The Association du transport urbain du Québec (ATUQ) will speak at 10:30 a.m., and the Front commun motocycliste will speak at 1:30 p.m.
The second day of public hearings will be held in Québec on Thursday, March 22, 2018, in the Fontainebleau Room at the Palace Royal, located at 775, avenue Honoré-Mercier. The Panel of Experts will hear from one group during the second day of hearings. CAA-Québec will speak at 10 a.m.
Anyone who wishes to consult a particular brief must contact the author.
Individuals and groups who wished to speak at the public hearings had until 5 p.m. on March 1, 2018 to file a brief. While the deadline for submitting a brief has passed, it is still possible to submit comments to the Panel of Experts. All parties who wish to provide their comments have until March 30, 2018 to do so, if they want the Panel of Experts to take them into consideration in the final draft of its report. Comments can be sent to [email protected]. The panel's report is scheduled to be made public on May 10, 2018.
The SAAQ tabled its proposed amendments to insurance contributions on December 13, 2017 in a discussion document entitled Proposed Insurance Contributions for 2019-2021. About the Panel of Experts
The Panel of Experts on Automobile Insurance Contributions was created by the Québec government under the Act respecting the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec. Comprising three members representing the actuarial, financial and insurance sectors, the Panel of Expert's mandate is to review the SAAQ's approach to setting insurance contributions and to check the data used in support of the proposed amendments. It must also hold a public consultation to obtain the opinion of all interested parties.
