Developer Carbonleo invites the public to two open-air public information sessions,
the evenings of July 14 and 15 at the Royalmount Drive-in Event Theatre
MONTREAL, July 9, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - Carbonleo, developer of the Royalmount project, will hold outdoor public information sessions on July 14 and 15 at the Royalmount Drive-in Event Theatre at 5:30 p.m. to present this transformed innovative neighbourhood project to interested members of the public.
The management of Carbonleo, who wish to explain the benefits and characteristics of the project, has decided to adopt an outdoor formula due to the pandemic in order to ensure a safe presentation in compliance with health requirements. These meetings constitute an important step in a public consultation process that has been ongoing since 2019. The presentation of the project will be able to accommodate 250 registrations in an original format, allowing for adherence to public health rules in order to ensure safety in times of pandemic.
Since its initial unveiling, the Royalmount project has benefited greatly from the constructive comments of various stakeholders, resulting in a significant enhancement of its initial form and the creation of a real living environment on a human scale for metropolitan and local communities.
"Since February, our team has been enthusiastically looking forward to presenting an enriched and greatly improved project. This new vision of Royalmount was made possible thanks to the consultations with, and constructive comments from, citizens and experts. On July 14 and 15, it will be a transformed project that we will present to citizens, namely a 100% pedestrian eco-innovative neighbourhood with a large residential component, green spaces, local services and a commercial component, as well as cultural offerings. We have responded to the requests we heard in order to create a real living environment in the image of Montrealers. The solution of using the drive-in format seemed to us the ideal way to meet public health requirements and to ensure the safety of participants, who we hope will attend in large numbers. It is essential for us to present the project in its transformed and forward-looking version," said Andrew Lutfy, President and CEO of Carbonleo.
To register
It is essential to register in advance for one of the two information sessions, to be held on July 14 and 15 at 5:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at the Royalmount Drive-in Event Theatre, located at 8315 Chemin Royden, in Mount Royal, very close to the De La Savane metro station. Each of the presentations will be able to accommodate 250 registrations per evening—i.e., 50 seated places for those arriving by public transport, plus 200 vehicles—all of which will allow us to respect the social distancing necessary to ensure the safety of citizens.
Registration for citizens can be made via the website at www.royalmount.com.
Media representatives wishing to participate must call at 514 212-7812 to reserve their place.
Carbonleo listens
Since 2019, more than 30 experts and stakeholders have worked on essential themes to make Royalmount a unifying project. The overall project has undergone a significant evolution, with improvements to the residential offering, the urban design, the vertical garden city and the cultural offering.
Meetings and activities were set up to listen and enrich the project through the implementation of round tables with experts from different fields, different consultation sessions in public places and online discussions with citizens in which 350 ideas and comments were collected.
Citizen consultation sessions took place in the Town of Mount Royal, at the De La Savane metro station and in the borough of Saint-Laurent. Themes that emerged included the addition of a residential component to contribute to the diversification of the sector, increased integration of greenery suitable for all four seasons, and a focus on the circular economy, as well as on accessible and modular green spaces for citizens. Particular emphasis was placed on mobility and on solutions to help open up the sector, as well as on the promotion of electric, active and collective transport, connecting infrastructure to that of adjacent neighbourhoods, and limiting the place of the automobile.
The commercial offering and the cultural offering also received special attention in order to meet the expectations of citizens for a diverse, distinct and complementary experience in the city centre, as well as to integrate local and independent shops, and to compensate for the current lack of offerings in the sector.
As desired, the project now further reflects Montreal's identity and captures the essence of Montreal through architecture, layout, art and local services. It is a serene, green living environment, adapted to new lifestyles and to the desire of citizens for active mobility and a reduced environmental footprint.

"We are proud of this new version of the project, which integrates green space and a residential component. It represents, in every respect, the spirit of collaboration that has enabled us to once again raise the bar of excellence. It is based on the contributions of some thirty experts and stakeholders, groups of citizens, individual citizens and organizations. During the meetings of July 14 and 15, I am confident that many will recognize themselves in the proposed improvements and, more than ever, I am convinced that the Royalmount project represents the needs and aspirations of Montrealers for a living environment on a human scale", said Carbonleo's executive vice-president and partner, Claude Marcotte.
