Public Release of Report on Homelessness in Scarborough
TORONTO, April 6, 2016 /CNW/ - A study examining homelessness in Scarborough will be released on Friday, April 8, 2016, detailing homelessness and housing issues in Scarborough and how the community can take action to address these issues.
The report, "Laying a Foundation: A Housing and Homelessness Research Report for Scarborough", draws on research conducted with over 200 people who have experienced being homeless or having unstable housing in Scarborough, as well as 55 community agencies.
Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities is the lead agency of the Scarborough Housing Stabilization Planning Network, a multi-agency planning table that works to build a coordinated system of services for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Scarborough. This project involved almost a year-long process to develop a better understanding of homelessness and housing issues in Scarborough and identify opportunities and actions that would support a coordinated system of homelessness services.
The research was funded by a grant from the City of Toronto.
"Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities regards this project as an important step forward in developing a better understanding of homelessness and housing issues in Scarborough and identifying how local agencies can work together to prevent homelessness and better address housing needs for vulnerable populations," said, Jeanie Joaquin CEO, Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities.
