OTTAWA, May 7, 2015 /CNW/ - Victory in Europe during the Second World War was secured on May 8, 1945. Of the more than one million Canadians who served during the war, more than 45,000 died fighting for freedom. In recognition of the many sacrifices and lives lost, Canadians will honour those who served with events held in communities across Canada, including the National Capital Region.
At 10:25 a.m. on Friday, May 8, Veterans who fought during the Second World War will be part of a parade which will include members of the Canadian Armed Forces and vintage vehicles in downtown Ottawa. The parade will start at the corner of Lisgar and Elgin streets, and proceed north on Elgin to the National War Memorial for a commemorative ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Veterans Affairs Canada encourages the public to attend this parade and cheer on our Canadian heroes.
