MONTREAL, Feb. 29, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - From 2 to 4 March, approximately sixty reservists from the 34th Combat Engineer Regiment (34 CER) will conduct an exercise based on a scenario of a large scale earthquake on Montreal Island.
Training will be conducted on three different sites:
- Pointe-Picard, Dorval
- Westmount High's parking, Westmount
- Morgan Arboretum in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue
Canadian Forces train to be ready to support civilian authorities during any kind of crisis, including natural disasters. During this exercise, Combat engineers will train to build a camp for Internally Displaced Persons, will conduct search and rescue missions, will conduct water purification operations (with a Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit or ROWPU) and will conduct operations to install and maintain generators for electric power generation.
Citizens of these three municipalities can expect to see troop movement by military vehicles between Westmount, Dorval and Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. Efforts will be put forward to minimize disturbance to the residents of these areas.
Coordination has been made between 34th CER and Dorval, Westmount and Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue in order to insure that every measure has been taken to conduct this exercise safely. No weapons will be used during this exercise.
