Public service announcement - Military exercise in Laurier-Station
VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, May 20 /CNW Telbec/ - Some 200 troops from 1 Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment, will take part in a military exercise in the municipality of Laurier-Station from May 25 to 27, 2010. Training will focus on relations with civilian population in order to prepare troops for a deployment to Afghanistan in fall 2010.
On secondary roads of Laurier-Station and in the downtown area, soldiers will practise various scenarios, including foot patrols, zone protection, road checks and casualty evacuation. Only one scenario will unfold in a neighbouring area, Saint-Flavien.
Approximately 15 wheeled light armoured vehicles will be used for training purposes. A command post will be located in Laurier-Station's industrial zone, north of Highway 20.
Citizens that would like to get involved in certain scenarios will be able to do so by calling Captain Jocelyn Démétré at 418-998-7957 beginning May 25. All will be invited to approach soldiers, adding to the realism of the exercise.
Although troops will be present in Laurier-Station and interact with residents on a voluntary basis, citizens will not be unduly bothered and will be able to carry out their normal activities. Blank ammunition and pyrotechnics will be used securely.
In order to thank residents for their welcoming, soldiers will manage a stand where people will be able to exchange with them and observe the equipment used during training.
