Puppy wish made possible thanks to local family
Innisfil dog breeder helps to bring joy to 12-year-old Christopher
AJAX, ON, Oct. 31, 2012 /CNW/ - When 12-year-old Christopher was informed that he was eligible to receive a wish from The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, he knew instantly that he wanted a puppy. Although the family currently has a dog, Christopher missed out on most of the puppy experience due to his frequent hospitalizations.
Children's Wish set out to make Christopher's wish come true by contacting Innisfil-based professional breeder and owner of PurdyPuppy Angie Fox and enquiring about the purchase of a young Havanese. When Mrs. Fox learned more about Christopher and his wish she consulted with her family and they made the decision to donate the dog to Christopher.
"We have four children of our own and are grateful that they are all healthy. We would hope that if something happened to affect their health that the community would reach out to us as well. Children are our future and deserve to be happy. Kids need smiles and a dog gives unconditional love to help heal those emotional wounds that medicine can't. We are happy that we could help to make Christopher's wish come true," commented Mrs. Fox.
Christopher recently met his eight week old puppy for the first time and has named her Teddy. She sleeps with Christopher in his room at night. Christopher's mom Mireille said that Christopher is overjoyed with the addition of Teddy and by the generosity of PurdyPuppy.
"Whether it's a Disney trip to meet Mickey Mouse, a home entertainment center to play video games on or, as in Christopher's case, a puppy that will bring joy, companionship and love, each wish is unique and deeply meaningful to a child with a life threatening illness," commented Sandra Harris, Director, Ontario Region of Children's Wish. "Children's Wish could not grant these wishes without the kindness, generosity and support of donors like Mrs. Fox."
The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada
Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of three and 17 are diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to 18,000 children and their families.
This year, Children's Wish expects to grant over 1,000 new wishes and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day. Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family. Children's Wish is a national charity with chapters in every province and territory.
