Purolator President and CEO joins Covenant House Sleep Out to help homeless youth in Toronto
TORONTO, Nov. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Patrick Nangle, President and Chief Executive Officer of Purolator Inc., will join more than 80 of Toronto's business and community leaders as they spend the night of Nov. 21 sleeping on Toronto's streets for the second annual Covenant House Sleep Out: Executive Edition to help homeless youth in Toronto.
"It is estimated that there are as many as 2,000 homeless young people on the streets of Toronto on any given night. The Covenant House Sleep Out is a wonderful opportunity for me to join others in helping our youth get off the streets and on the road to a brighter future," said Nangle. "On Nov. 21, I'm sleeping out to raise awareness of what it's like to sleep on a cold city sidewalk. I hope this further motivates my fellow Torontonians to join me in helping those in need, particularly heading into the holiday season."
Led by returning Co-chair Arlene Dickinson of Dragons' Den and Tim Leiweke, President and Chief Executive Officer, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, the Sleep Out provides participants with only sleeping bags and a piece of cardboard to raise awareness and funds for Covenant House Toronto - Canada's largest youth agency.
Covenant House provides crisis programs and services to about 3,000 youth annually. Its services include providing education and job training to youth who are getting back on the road to independence, or shelter, food and clothing to youth who need help to meet their most basic needs.
Purolator Inc. has been a long-time supporter of helping alleviate hunger in the communities where it operates. Since its inception in 2003, the Purolator Tackle Hunger® (PTH) program has helped deliver the equivalent of more than 6.5 million pounds of food to food banks across Canada. More specifically, the PTH program has raised approximately $300,000 in cash and food donations for Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank, which provides Covenant House Toronto with food for its programs.
