Purolator President and CEO to participate in Covenant House Sleep Out: Executive Edition to raise awareness of homeless youth in Toronto
TORONTO, Nov. 16, 2015 /CNW/ - Patrick Nangle, President and CEO of Purolator, will once again join Toronto's business and community leaders as they spend the night of Nov. 19 sleeping on Toronto's streets for the fourth annual Covenant House Sleep Out: Executive Edition to raise awareness of homeless youth in Toronto and contribute to the overall goal of raising $1 million in just one night.
"During last year's Sleep Out, I had the unique opportunity of meeting individuals that use the facilities and hearing their compelling stories about how the donations we raise help homeless youth every day," said Nangle. "It was personally very impactful to experience at least some of the reality of our youth who live on the streets. I am once again looking forward to helping Covenant House raise its goal of $1 million in one night."
For one night, participants sleep on a sidewalk in downtown Toronto – with only a sleeping bag and a piece of cardboard – to help raise awareness and funds for Covenant House Toronto. Last year, the Covenant House Sleep Out: Executive Edition raised $950,000, bringing the total amount raised since the event started in 2012 to more than $2.5 million.
As Canada's largest homeless youth agency, Covenant House Toronto provides crisis programs and services to approximately 3,000 youth every year. Its services include providing education and job training to youth who are getting back on the road to independence, as well as shelter, food and clothing to youth who need help to meet their most basic needs.
Purolator has been a long-time supporter of helping alleviate hunger in the communities where it operates. Since its inception in 2003, the Purolator Tackle Hunger® program has helped deliver the equivalent of more than eight million pounds of food to food banks across Canada. The equivalent of more than 550,000 pounds of these donations has gone to Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank, which provides Covenant House Toronto with food for its programs.
