TORONTO, Nov. 13, 2012 /CNW/ - Purolator is proud to announce that it has exceeded its goal of helping to collect the equivalent of 1 million pounds of food in its 10th season of Purolator Tackle Hunger® (PTH) program.
In 2012, Purolator teammates, partners and Canadian Football League (CFL) fans came together to collect over 1 million pounds of food for local food banks across Canada. This represents an increase of over 23 per cent compared to the amount collected last season. The goal of helping to raise the equivalent of 1 million pounds of food was set this year to commemorate the 10th season of Purolator's successful PTH program. Purolator's partnership with the CFL was established in 2003 and has played a key role in enabling Purolator to help support Canadian families in need.
"Our relationship with the CFL and our partners in tackling hunger has far exceeded our expectations. We are heartened by the relentless efforts put forth by our teammates, partners and countless CFL fans who have given generously towards this cause. Surpassing our goal in raising 1 million pounds of food is a great achievement we can all be proud of" said Ramsey Mansour, Purolator's Vice President of Marketing.
Since its inception, the PTH program has raised the equivalent of 5.5 million pounds of food for local food banks across Canada. According to Food Banks Canada, almost 900,000 Canadians, 38 per cent of whom are children, rely on food banks every month.
As part of the 10th season of the PTH program, Purolator also delivered on its promise from earlier this year to donate 10 refurbished curbsider delivery vehicles to select food banks across Canada. So far, nine trucks have been donated, with the 10th and final one to be donated by the end of the year.
