Purolator employees and customers break previous year's record by donating 411,000 pounds of food to local communities across the country
TORONTO, June 24, 2013 /CNW/ - Purolator Inc. teammates, partners and customers donated the equivalent of 411,000 pounds of food to 165 local food banks across Canada during the Purolator Tackle Hunger® (PTH) Week campaign, June 3-7. This donation represents a six per cent increase over the 2012 results.
"We are thrilled with the results achieved thus far - and confident we will meet our goal of 1.1 million pounds of food in our 11th season of Purolator Tackle Hunger," said Ramsey Mansour, Purolator's Vice President of Marketing. "The needs of our communities are significant and growing. So it's incredible to see how our more than 12,000 teammates and over 450 Purolator and customer locations have stepped up to the challenge and come together to help give back to those who need it most."
Purolator is committed to tackling hunger in Canada and making a positive difference in the communities it services. Since its inception, the PTH program has helped deliver the equivalent of more than 5.9 million pounds of food to local food banks across Canada.
"Purolator Tackle Hunger continues to make an impact on the lives of the almost 900,000 Canadians who rely on food banks every month, raising almost six million pounds of food and consumer goods for local food banks over the past 11 years," said Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director, Food Banks Canada. "The passion and drive of Purolator's employees are inspiring and are a testament to how they are committed to making a positive difference in the communities where they live, work and play. We look forward to continuing this important partnership as we work together to tackle hunger."
Following PTH Week, the annual PTH program will now start to make its way across Canada, holding Game Day food drives at nine Canadian Football League (CFL) games throughout the season. At these games, fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or a cash donation to help support their local food banks. In return, fans have the chance to get their digital picture taken with the Grey Cup. Additionally, every time a quarterback gets sacked during the regular season, Purolator will donate the equivalent of the quarterback's weight in food to the local food bank where the game is being played. PTH Game Day food drives are posted on www.purolatortacklehunger.com.
