Purolator kicks off its 11th season of Purolator Tackle Hunger June 3 - 7
TORONTO, May 31, 2013 /CNW/ - Entering its 11th season, the Purolator Tackle Hunger (PTH) program is set to launch June 3 - 7 with PTH Week. During PTH Week, more than 12,000 Purolator employees - as well as Purolator partners, agents and customers - across Canada team up to raise food and funds for local food banks.
"With close to 900,000 Canadians relying on food banks every month, we were proud to achieve our goal of raising 1 million pounds last year," said Ramsey Mansour, Purolator's Vice President of Marketing. "This year, our target is 1.1 million pounds - and the Purolator team is working hard to help 'tackle hunger' in communities across Canada."
Purolator's goal for this year's PTH season is to raise 400,000 pounds of food during PTH Week and 1.1 million pounds overall. The company is encouraging all of its customers to donate during PTH Week. Customers who visit any of the 130 Purolator shipping centres and drop off a minimum of three non-perishable food items during PTH Week (June 3 - 7), will receive a 25 per cent discount coupon for a future shipment.
"As we head into the summer months, it's a time to relax and enjoy the warm weather, but hundreds of thousands of Canadians will struggle to get enough food for themselves and their families," said Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director, Food Banks Canada. "Food banks see their inventory levels fall significantly over this period, and programs like Purolator Tackle Hunger help to drive awareness and much-needed support for food banks."
All donations raised during PTH Week stay in the community where it is collected, supporting more than 165 local food banks across Canada. People who want to show their community support can contribute by making a donation at any Purolator shipping centre, Warehouse One or PostNet location across Canada.
