Full lifecycle support for co-located hardware means fewer visits to the data centre
TORONTO, Feb. 12, 2015 /CNW/ - Q9 Networks is pleased to announce its new Onsite Support Services (OSS) offering for co-location customers. OSS advances Q9's strategy to support the entire physical computing infrastructure layer, from the data centre to the device, enabling customers to optimize the use of IT resources and reduce costs.
With OSS, customers no longer need to physically visit a Q9 data centre to manage their computing environments. Instead, Q9's onsite data centre technicians can provide fast and reliable support for the complete lifecycle of co-located infrastructure, including:
- Installing hardware (receive, unpack, rack)
- Decommissioning hardware (un-rack, pack, shipping preparation)
- Replacing/upgrading server components
- Installing patch cables
- Initiating hardware power-up procedures
- Supervising third-party support personnel (e.g. vendor technicians) within a customer enclosure
For Mississauga-based Hatch, an international engineering consulting firm with its primary and secondary global data centre infrastructure co-located in two Q9 facilities, OSS delivers added convenience and productivity.
"Even though Q9 data centres aren't that far from our office, it's still not a good use of our team's time to spend half a day there to perform tasks that can easily be done by Q9 technicians," says Adeel Aziz, Hatch's Network Services Lead for North America. "Our staff is far more productive staying at their desks and dealing with higher-value operational issues. Our working goal is to avoid ever having to go the data centres."
With skilled Q9 data centre technicians onsite 24/7, economies of scale enable a very affordable hourly rate with no retainer and only a half-hour minimum charge. There is no charge to sign up for the service and customers pay only for what they use.
"Today's CIOs are tasked with improving productivity and making measureable contributions to business growth," says Karen Sheriff, President and Chief Executive Officer, Q9 Networks. "When time and resources are constrained, it makes sense for enterprise IT staff to focus on innovation rather than infrastructure. OSS is ideal for those customers that wish to concentrate on software and applications and leave the hands-on management of data centres and computing hardware to Q9."
