Q9 Opens Significant Data Centre Expansion in Calgary
More than 40 per cent of new capacity already sold
CALGARY, April 25, 2013 /CNW/ - As part of its ongoing data centre build program, Q9 Networks Inc. (Q9) is pleased to announce that it has opened a new phase of capacity at its largest suburban Calgary site. Q9 has invested approximately $425 million in its network of state-of-the-art data centres, of which more than $190 million was spent on facilities in Western Canada.
The new Calgary build is the third in a series of planned expansions at the suburban site. The second expansion was completed in 2012 and nearly all of its capacity was quickly sold to new and existing customers. Of the expansion announced today, more than 40 per cent of its capacity has already been sold. As a result, the fourth expansion is already underway. As the largest commercial data centre facility in Western Canada with an ultimate size of more than 250,000 square feet (of which over 100,000 square feet is operational today), this site can accommodate significant growth from existing and new co-location customers.
All of Q9's Calgary data centre facilities are interconnected with Q9's data centres in British Columbia, providing customers with a range of business continuity options by leveraging multiple Q9 data centres. Q9's existing facilities have sufficient on-site potential to support continued expansion in Calgary to over 15 megawatts of critical customer capacity.
The new expansion is built to Q9's renowned high standards and includes such features as outside air cooling capability to maximize energy efficiency, biometric security systems, multiple connections to the Internet, redundant power, redundant cooling and advanced fire detection and suppression systems.
"We have been proudly serving the data centre needs of Albertans since 2002," says Q9 Chief Executive Officer, Osama Arafat. "In that year, we opened our first facility and we've been building in Calgary ever since. Today's announcement demonstrates our continued success and ongoing commitment to meeting the growing needs of our many blue chip customers in Western Canada."
