VANCOUVER, May 28, 2018 /CNW/ - QuadReal Property Group was proud to join the formal ceremony hosted in Ottawa today by the Honourable Jim Carr, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, to launch the ENERGY STAR® certification program for commercial buildings in Canada and announce the first recipients of this distinction, including 26 QuadReal buildings.
"Congratulations to QuadReal Property Group, whose buildings were among the first to qualify for ENERGY STAR certification in Canada," said Minister Carr. "Energy-efficient buildings play a key role in helping Canada achieve its greenhouse gas reduction commitments, and we are proud to recognize organizations that are leading the way."
The ENERGY STAR certification is among the most highly recognized and well-respected distinctions of its kind in North America. The label that is very familiar to appliance purchasers means the same thing for Canadians in their office workplaces as it does for the products in their homes – an energy-efficient top performer that saves money without sacrificing performance.
"Across QuadReal's portfolio, the ENERGY STAR certifications that now appear on our buildings are a testament to the dedication shown every day by our building operators and our property management teams," said Remco Daal, QuadReal's President, Canadian Real Estate. "We are extremely proud of these teams and their focus on energy efficiency as part of our commitment to our tenants and our communities."
Today's announcement of the first ENERGY STAR-certified office properties in Canada also recognized QuadReal with a unique distinction – having the largest number of certified buildings of any Canadian real estate management firm. These certified properties, located in regions throughout the country, reflect QuadReal's comprehensive Building Energy Benchmarking, Reporting and Transparency policies. The company's commitment to the pursuit of excellence in sustainability includes the public posting of benchmarked energy, water and carbon data for its buildings across Canada.
About ENERGY STAR certification in Canada:
To earn Natural Resources Canada's ENERGY STAR certification, a building must meet strict energy performance standards. These buildings must earn a score of at least 75 on the 1-100 ENERGY STAR scale, and all property applications for certification must be verified by a licensed industry professional. Compared with their peers, an ENERGY STAR-certified office building makes a difference in our communities: it will typically use 35% less energy and generate 35% fewer greenhouse gas emissions.
