MONTREAL, Oct. 21, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation announced this morning the winners of the first edition of the 1 million to help contest. A total of nearly $1.3 million will be distributed to 9 Quebec organizations for innovative projects that will make a genuine difference for women with the disease and survivors, as well as for their families and healthcare providers.
"We are very proud of this initiative, which enables the Foundation to contribute in increasing the support provided to people affected by breast cancer across the province," said Francine Cléroux, President and Executive director of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. "The 1 million to help grants are a concrete example of the initiatives that are possible with the donations received by the Foundation."
The 1 million to help grants were distributed following a contest launched in January in which hospitals and community organizations were asked to submit projects that support people affected by breast cancer. A committee of independent experts selected the 9 winning projects that best represent excellence and innovation, and allow for the development and sharing of best practices. Moreover, the projects reflected the priorities identified by the target community. They will benefit a significant number of people and encourage the cooperation that is essential to improving the support services offered in Quebec. The recipient organizations will have a maximum of three years to carry out their project.
"We were highly impressed by the quality of the projects submitted for this first edition of the contest," said Danièle Drolet, the Foundation's Vice President, breast cancer programs and investments. "At the same time, we'd like to congratulate everyone who took the time to develop and submit projects with the common aim of improving the support available to women with breast cancer and their families."
