Quebec Budget 2018-19: Innovative Medicines Canada Welcomes Investments in R&D and Innovation
MONTREAL, March 27, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - In response to the budget tabled by Quebec Finance Minister, Carlos Leitão, Innovative Medicines Canada welcomes investment to support the innovative life sciences sector in Quebec.
"Sound public finances and measures to improve the Quebec Life Sciences Strategy send an encouraging signal to the Quebec pharmaceutical industry and fuel the hope of promising actions to attract more pharmaceutical research to Quebec," said Pamela Fralick, President, Innovative Medicines Canada.
"We are pleased that the Budget meets some of our recommendations and we reiterate our cooperation in achieving the ambitious targets of the Quebec Life Sciences Strategy," added Stéphane Lassignardie, General Manager of AbbVie Canada and Chair of Innovative Medicines Canada's Quebec Committee. "We want to work with the government to identify solutions to ensure faster access to innovative medicines for Quebec patients."
Innovative Medicines Canada also notes the following measures:
- Increased funding for the Fonds de recherche du Québec
- Better access to health data for research purposes
- Enhancement of the Health Collaboration Acceleration Fund
- Financial support to the Quebec Industrial Consortium for Research and Innovation in Medical Technologies, the Montreal Clinical Research Institute and the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer - Commercialization of Research
