Coca-Cola Canada supports local activities to inspire youth across Quebec to lead active lifestyles through grants totalling nearly $383,000
MONTREAL, Dec. 18, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - From Kung Fu to speed skating to yoga and hip hop dancing, Sogo Active is inspiring Quebec teens to become more active year-round. Sogo Active, a program presented by Coca-Cola Canada in collaboration with ParticipACTION, has provided nearly $383, 000 in grants and contributions to 555 local and provincial organizations, and motivated more than 11,000 youth to become more physically active.
"The grants provide opportunities for communities to have access to creating youth-centred programs," says Kelly Murumets, President and CEO of ParticipACTION. "Through this private/not-for-profit partnership, we are able to inspire thousands of teens to increase their physical activity levels and provide youth with access to facilities, equipment or other support needed to get active."
Coca-Cola Canada has partnered with ParticipACTION, the national voice of physical activity and sport participation, to develop Sogo Active. Sogo Active is a $5 million, five year national youth active living program that has supported over 2,800 community organizations and more than 30,000 youth, ages 13 to 19, across Canada to take up some form of physical activity. Using a "by youth, for youth" approach, the program works to inspire teens to incorporate physical activity into their day-to-day lives and connect them to local community organizations.
"Promoting a balanced and active lifestyle is a key component of our commitment to building sustainable communities," says Robert Fleury, Vice President, Eastern Canada, Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada. "We can accomplish more by working together with partners like ParticipACTION, than we can working alone."
