QUÉBEC CITY, Dec. 12, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Québec Winter Carnival, in collaboration with Loto-Québec, is proud to announce the release of Belinda Jones's new novel, Winter Wonderland, a story that plunges readers into the magic of the Winter Carnival. Already available in the United Kingdom, the book is being launched across Canada today, and will be distributed in at least 17 other countries: Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Luxemburg, India, Italy, Netherlands, Oman, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United States.
Fiction inspired by a beautiful story: our very own!
Winter Wonderland is the story of Krista Carter, a travel journalist who roams the globe in search of exciting and original travel ideas to catch her readers' fancy. Krista winds up on assignment in Québec City, where she discovers an enchanting world of ice palaces, snow sculptures, magnificent parades, ice canoe races, sugar shacks, and friendly Quebecers. During her stay, she falls for the charms of Jacques, a French Canadian dogsled driver whom she meets just as she is about to take part in the Carnival snow bath on the Plains of Abraham. Québec City's authentic character and architecture and the joie de vivre of its people bring the book to life and will have readers around the world dreaming of a Québec getaway. "Every single person who has read this book so far—the staff at my publishers and agent's office, reviewers, friends and family—every single one of them has said that they now want to visit Québec City. It makes me happy to think that they too could have a taste of the magic I experienced," said Belinda Jones, the book's author.
The World's Winter Capital
Belinda Jones is one of the many journalists hosted during the 2012 Carnival as part of a series of media tours jointly organized by Québec City Tourism, Tourisme Québec, and the Carnival. For Jones, the Carnival was a real source of writerly inspiration: "I have written ten bestselling romantic comedy novels set in an array of exotic locations including Tahiti, Costa Rica, Argentina, Italy and Greece, but far and away the most inspirational destination for me was Québec during the Winter Carnival. It is such a magical time to visit this fairytale city, I truly felt as if I had stepped into a snow-globe! I was so spoiled for choice when it came to backdrops for different scenes."
"It's always a delight for our team to see just how well known the Carnival is outside our borders and to realize how it fires the imagination of those who experience it first-hand. Indeed, the release of Winter Wonderland coincides with preparations on our part to launch a major new campaign to position Québec City as the world's winter capital," said Québec Winter Carnival executive director Jean Pelletier. "Belinda Jones's book brings the magic of Québec City winter to life. The Carnival is one of the highlights of the season, and promoting winter travel is a priority for Québec City Tourism. Let's hope that many Winter Wonderland readers will add Québec City to their travel wish list!" added Québec City tourism director Gabriel Savard.
