The 371 USW members at the CEZinc refinery in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, west of Montreal, have been on the picket line since Feb. 12 to resist the company's demands for concessions, in particular an attack on their pension plan, even though the plan is overfunded. The workers have denounced the company for rejecting their proposals to explore cost-cutting and efficiency options.
The workers also have called out Noranda Income Fund for refusing to disclose the terms of the concentrate supply contract and the production purchase agreement it has with Glencore.
The CEZinc refinery is co-owned by Noranda Income Fund and Glencore, with the latter holding a 25% stake in the operation.
