You're sure to be charmed by the mysteries of the Universe and the splendours of the Northern Lights as soon as you step inside the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium, or perhaps you'll decide to deconstruct and redefine time under the starry sky. At the Biodôme
Mission: I Spy Challenge Approximate length: 1.5 hours
How about a fabulous March Break adventure through the five ecosystems of the Americas? Grab an identification guide, head off with the whole family and try to spot each of the representatives of the 245 animal species housed at the Biodôme. Our nature interpreters will be glad to lend a hand. And if one mission is good, two are even better! Before you leave home, download the free Génial! at the Biodôme app. Once you get to the Biodôme, Martin Carli and Stéphane Bellavance will invite you to re-establish a balance in the ecosystems, helping you out with exclusive games and videos.
At the Insectarium
Embark on a photo safari with the Génial! at the Insectarium app
Get out your smart phone and join the two hosts of the Génial! show. "Catch" some fifteen insects hiding around the Insectarium and create your own fabulous collection. The app is packed with games, surprises and exclusive videos that are sure to delight the whole family. You can also get a close-up look at the extraordinary social organization of our Atta ants and even touch the super insects on tour – you won't believe their "superpowers"!
At the Botanical Garden
Sugaring-off Time Approximate length: 30 min to 1 hour
Spring is just around the corner at the Frédéric Back Tree Pavilion. During March Break, on February 28 and March 5 and 6, bring the gang for some sweet treats and discover the secrets of sugar maples, those trees that play such a central role in our traditions. From 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., presentations on a star product will be held indoors, while maple products and maple taffy will be available for sale outdoors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Butterflies Go Free – A Caterpillar's Life Approximate length: 90 minutes
This year, the graceful butterflies are sharing the spotlight with caterpillars. Revisit your childhood and look under the leaves in the Main Exhibition Greenhouse for some astonishingly diverse caterpillars. A fabulous surprise awaits you as you discover their universe. Caterpillars may be multicoloured, plain or striped, covered in hairs or even spines – they have all kinds of tricks to defend themselves from the boldest predators. You can wrap up your visit in style by checking out the other greenhouses at the Botanical Garden along with the Insectarium – one price for both attractions.
At the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium
Two double features to choose from Approximate length: 1.5 to 2 hours
Fascination and wonder are guaranteed with Dark Universe and aurōrae. Travel to the ends of the universe and journey through the immensity of space as you explore the visible and the invisible. Continue the journey with one of our nature guides, who will use breathtaking images to explain the captivating phenomenon behind the appearance of the Northern Lights. With Vertiges, an immersive experience combining science, philosophy and art, you can deconstruct time, then redefine this wonderfully subjective concept in Tempo, as you reconnect with the cycles of the starry skies. There are activities for ages 7 and up, along with a permanent exhibition. We recommend buying your tickets online ahead of time to avoid any disappointment.
