/R E P E A T -- Bonaventure Expressway: complete night closures towards the Champlain Bridge to watch for as the second phase is implemented/ Français
LONGUEUIL, QC, Aug. 27, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to advise road users that night work, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., will result in the complete closure of the Bonaventure Expressway towards the Champlain Bridge two times in the weeks to come, starting September 2.
This night work will take place from Wednesday, September 4 to 5 and Thursday, September 5 to 6.
The complete closures of access ramps to the Bonaventure Expressway towards the Champlain Bridge will also be necessary from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.:
- Entrance from Nazareth Street;
- Entrance from Highway 720 West.
Complete short-term closures (less than 15 minutes) will also occasionally take place towards Downtown Montréal during these nights.
These closures are necessary to move the worksite in the central lanes of the expressway (phase change) in order to begin the second phase of the 2013 Bonaventure Expressway rehabilitation program.
Starting September 6 at 5 a.m., the exit for Pierre-Dupuy Avenue on the Bonaventure Expressway towards the Champlain Bridge will be reopened. This second phase of work will not require the closure of exit or access ramps, and two lanes will be kept open in each direction on the expressway.
Preparatory work during the day, Wednesday, August 28
Preparatory work (concrete of the expansion joints) will also take place on Wednesday, August 28th during the day in both directions and will require the following closures:
- Closure of two lanes out of three on the A-Bonaventure towards the Champlain from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Complete closure of the access ramp from Nazareth Street to the A-Bonaventure towards the Champlain Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Closure of two lanes out of three on the A-Bonaventure towards Downtown Montréal from 10 a.m. to midnight.
- Complete closure of the access ramp from Pierre Dupuy Avenue to the A-Bonaventure towards Downtown Montréal from 10 a.m. to midnight.
- Closure of two lanes out of three on the A-Bonaventure towards the Champlain from 8 p.m. to midnight.
This work is part of the major rehabilitation program of the federal section of the Bonaventure Expressway, which started in 2010 and allows for the annual rehabilitation of one of the raised sections of this stretch of the expressway.
The 2013 rehabilitation work will be carried out in four phases and will be completed by late December. During this intensive work, an entire section (four spans) of the Bonaventure Expressway will be reconstructed, including beams, the slab, expansion joints, paving and marking, as well as the rehabilitation of piers and pier caps.
Finally, please note that the City of Montreal has also started work on the section of the expressway located on the other side of the Lachine Canal. These are two separate rehabilitation projects.
It is very important to note that this work is subject to weather conditions and may be postponed until another weekend in the event of adverse weather.
