OAKVILLE, ON, Dec. 30, 2013 /CNW/ - Hundreds of thrill-seeking Canadians will begin 2014 plunging into the frigid waters of Lake Ontario. This year's #polarbeardip in Oakville's Coronation Park will attract thousands of spectators, and benefit countless more around the world.

This will be the 29th annual Courage Polar Bear Dip and the 'water for water' event has been raising money for clean water projects since 1995 for www.worldvision.ca.

In a festive, family atmosphere the Courage Polar Bear Dip sees hundreds of dippers of all ages, from as young as four, all the way up to 76 taking part in the craziness of the day.

"This is our family tradition," says dip co-founder Todd Courage. "It kickstarts the New Year with fun and laughter, shivers and a little cold pain, but most of all it leaves us with a warm feeling that we have had a positive influence in people's lives through World Vision. It's a great invigorating feeling."

Who: Almost 1,000 people expected from across the GTA and Golden Horseshoe, including dip founders Todd & Trent Courage, cheered on by thousands of spectators in a fun, family-friendly, festival atmosphere

What: Waves of people will brave frigid waters of Lake Ontario against the backdrop of a festival that includes live music and a costume contest.

When: January 1, 2013—festivities start at 12:30 p.m., dip at 2p.m.

Where: Coronation Park, Oakville (1426 Lakeshore Rd. West, Oakville, ON).
