/R E P E A T -- Calling for a National Senior Strategy: the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) host a parallel event to the Council of the Federation on seniors care in St. John's/

OTTAWA, July 6, 2015 /CNW/ - The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) will co-host a seniors care roundtable on July 16^th in St. John's as a parallel event to the Council of Federation meeting.

Ministers, MPs and the Mayor of St. John's have been invited to the roundtable and the event is open to the public and media.

While caring for someone in the hospital costs $1,000 a day, long-term care costs $130 a day and home care services just $55. Yet thousands of seniors are stuck in hospital beds because we as a society are not investing enough in long-term care and home care services.

The CASW and the CMA's seniors care roundtable discussion will help shape a national seniors strategy. The two organizations are working together to make a national seniors strategy a key priority in the upcoming federal election.
