/R E P E A T -- Champlain Bridge: continuation of work in southbound
direction from August 27 to August 30/
Three alternatives always available: Victoria, Jacques Cartier and Honoré Mercier Bridges
LONGUEUIL, QC, Aug. 25 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) wishes to announce further lane closures from Friday, August 27, 10 PM, to Monday, August 30, 5 AM. During this period, only one of three southbound traffic lanes will be open and only two of three Montreal bound traffic lanes will be open at NIGHT from Friday, 10 PM to Saturday, 10 AM, and from Saturday, 10 PM to Sunday, 2 PM, and finally from Sunday, 10 PM, to Monday, 5 AM. During the DAY, two lanes will be open in each direction.
Note that, traffic risks being heavier on Saturday and Sunday morning, as the night closures will continue until 10 AM on Saturday, and until 2 PM on Sunday. Driving at night will also be affected this weekend. It remains highly recommended for motorists to use the Jacques Cartier, Honoré Mercier, or Victoria Bridges. The Jacques Cartier Bridge will open the center lane, according to the prevailing demand of traffic, in one direction or the other. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use these alternatives, if at all possible, since traffic is expected to be very heavy on the Champlain Bridge.
This work will permit the completion of paving that was not able to be carried out over last weekend, due to the weather conditions. The existing pavement will be replaced by new asphalt. Ten mechanical shovels will be mobilized to carry out the removal of pavement in two traffic lanes on the main section of the bridge over the river.
Since this work consists of paving, it could be postponed depending on weather conditions.
Consult our schedules which go over the upcoming closures on the Champlain Bridge (August: http://bit.ly/9aK1jQ / September: http://bit.ly/bw1RV7).
