/R E P E A T -- Champlain Bridge: Major work affecting southbound traffic
from August 20th to August 23rd/
One traffic lane towards the south shore / two traffic lanes towards the Island of Montreal Three alternatives : Victoria, Jacques Cartier and Honoré Mercier Bridges
LONGUEUIL, QC, Aug. 17 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) wishes to announce important lane closures from Friday, August 20th at 10 PM until Monday, August 23rd at 5 AM. During this period, only one of three southbound traffic lanes will be open to motorists and only two of three Montreal bound traffic lanes will be open during the entire weekend, day and night.
Due to this major work, it is strongly recommended that motorists use the Jacques Cartier, Victoria or Honoré Mercier Bridges. The two lanes on the Victoria Bridge will be specially opened in the southbound direction during this entire period (map: http://bit.ly/dBzbZR). The Jacques Cartier Bridge will open the center lane, according to the prevailing demand of traffic. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use these alternatives, if at all possible, since traffic is expected to be very heavy on Champlain Bridge.
The work consists of removing old pavement and replacing it with new pavement and replacing expansion joints in the southbound traffic lanes. Three contractors will be working simultaneously on the Champlain Bridge. Ten mechanical shovels will be mobilized to carry out the removal of pavement in two traffic lanes on the main section of the bridge over the river. Concurrently, two other contractors will begin replacing expansion joints.
Every effort is being taken to complete this work as quickly and efficiently as possible. This work could be postponed depending on weather conditions.
Consult our schedules which go over the upcoming closures on the Champlain Bridge (August: http://bit.ly/9aK1jQ / September: http://bit.ly/bw1RV7).
