OTTAWA, March 28, 2016 /CNW/ - Choosing Wisely Canada (CWC) will host its inaugural national meeting in Toronto on Mar. 30, 2016 gathering health care leaders committed to reducing unnecessary testing and treatment in the health care system.
The meeting will bring together the various groups who have contributed to the campaign, and its goal to improve the quality of care. Attending the meeting will be physician and other health care professional leaders, government decision makers, health professional students and engaged patients.
The meeting will feature sessions on the following:
- How over 70 organizations from across Canada have had success implementing CWC recommendations. Access the full description of projects
- What groups are doing to build on local innovations
- How to measure the impact of the campaign locally
- Highlighting innovative CWC projects across Canada
- How medical students are taking up the CWC cause
- Launch of a national implementation effort and new CWC website for patients
The event will also feature keynote speakers:
- Wendy Levinson, Chair, Choosing Wisely Canada
- Cindy Forbes, President of the Canadian Medical Association
- Bob Bell, Deputy Minister, Ministry Health and Long Term Care
- Andre Picard, health columnist, The Globe and Mail
- Daniel Wolfson, Executive Vice President, ABIM Foundation (United States)
The meeting will be held in the Bram & Bluma Appel Salon, Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge St., Toronto.

Choosing Wisely Canada is a campaign to help clinicians and patients engage in conversations about unnecessary tests and treatments and make smart and effective choices to ensure high-quality care. Choosing Wisely Canada is organized by a team of leading Canadian physicians, in partnership with the Canadian Medical Association. Choosing Wisely Canada got underway initially in Ontario and has quickly been adopted in all provinces and territories.
