LONGUEUIL, QC, March 12, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) is proud to announce that Mr. Glen Patrick Carlin, who has been a senior manager at the Corporation for over 25 years, was named a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) at its annual gala today in Ottawa.

Each year, this prestigious title is awarded to exceptional candidates from the 35,000 members of the EIC's Member Societies in recognition of their excellence in engineering and their services to the profession and to society.

After earning his degree in civil engineering from Carleton University, Mr. Carlin oversaw many large-scale projects in his career before joining JCCBI in 1989. He worked on the hydroelectric development preliminary project on the Nottaway, Broadback and Rupert Rivers (James Bay), the extension of the Montreal Metro's blue line, and the major rehabilitation of the locks on the Welland Canal in Ontario.

Before taking over the reins of the Corporation in 1996 as General Manager, he served as Director, Engineering and Construction, and supervised such projects as the replacement of the Champlain Bridge deck with an orthotropic steel deck—a first in Canada. This project earned him a Prix Méritas from the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.

As Chief Executive Officer since 2014, he has played a crucial role in the planning and execution of major repair and reinforcement work on many structures that are critical for Greater Montreal and Canada. In 2008, he launched the redecking project for the Honoré Mercier Bridge in collaboration with the Mohawk and Kahnawake community and its contractors.

In the face of adversity, whether during the 1998 ice storm, when he coordinated a delicate de-icing operation as the city lay in total darkness, or the emergency installation of the super beam on the Champlain Bridge in 2013, he always draws on engineering innovation to devise unique solutions to incredibly complex problems," said Mr. Paul T.
