/R E P E A T -- Highway 15: Final Major Work at L'Île-des-Sœurs Bridge
Over the Course of the Upcoming Weekend/
LONGUEUIL, QC, Oct 6 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) wishes to inform the public of important lane closures over the course of the upcoming weekend at L'Île-des-Sœurs Bridge (Highway 15 North and South), where a single lane will be open in both directions from Friday, October 8 at midnight until Sunday, October 10 at noon. Please note that one northbound lane out of three will be closed as of 9 PM and one southbound lane as of 10 PM.
Note that the L'Île-des-Sœurs Bridge connects Highway 15 (North and South) to the Champlain Bridge. It is important to note that the roadwork will also take place simultaneously on the Bonaventure Expressway towards the Champlain Bridge, but that access to Downtown Montreal will remain completely open. Therefore, Exit 58 remains an excellent option to reach the Bonaventure Expressway directly from the Champlain Bridge heading north to avoid the construction zone. Note that Ramp T (access to 15 North via Exit 4 of Highway 10 East) will be closed 3 times due to phase changes from Saturday afternoon to Sunday at noon. During this period, this ramp will be temporary closed.
Since major work will be taking place on the Honoré Mercier Bridge, the Jacques Cartier Bridge proves to be the best option over the course of the upcoming weekend. The weather over the last several weeks has forced us to delay this final obstruction to traffic on the L'Île-des-Sœurs Bridge, which is taking place at the same time as the one on the Honoré Mercier Bridge. Unfortunately, it is not possible to delay these two closures without running the risk of not finishing the roadwork this year, due to the fact that the paving work cannot be executed under cold weather conditions. Note that the roadwork on the Mercier Bridge is scheduled to take place over the course of three weekends.
Motorists are requested to be patient during the final major work phase scheduled for this year on the Champlain Bridge area. Note that there won't be any obstruction to traffic on Monday, October 11 on the Mercier Bridge nor on the Champlain Bridge for the end of the long weekend. However, please note that the roadwork will start at midnight on the L'Île-des-Sœurs Bridge and at 11 PM on the Mercier Bridge.
Alternatives and detours - October 8 to 10
Towards the South Shore, motorists are invited to use the Victoria Bridge starting at the Atwater exit. Exceptionally, the two southbound lanes of the Victoria Bridge will be open on Saturday, October 9 from 10 AM to 8 PM, to alleviate the work on the southbound part of L'Île-des-Sœurs Bridge.
For residents of L'Île-des-Sœurs, Exit 5 (Îles-des-Sœurs) of the Bonaventure Expressway will not be open this weekend, however the access from Exit 4 and Gaétan Laberge Boulevard will be open. Motorists will also have access to the Island through Exit 57 of Highway 15 North. It is also recommended that residents of the Island use Highway 15 South or the Bonaventure Expressway to exit the Island over the weekend, since the direct access to Highway 15 North will be closed.
This work will allow for the repair of concrete deck panels and expansion joints on the L'Île-des-Sœurs Bridge, as well as paving of the main viaduct and of the L'Île-des-Sœurs Bridge.
