Hydro-Québec thanks all of its customers for their cooperation and asks them to continue their efforts to reduce electricity consumption
MONTREAL, Jan. 23, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Hydro-Québec would like to thank all of its customers for their cooperation to reduce electricity consumption in this time of exceptional peaks, given the extremely cold weather conditions of the past few days. The preliminary evaluation of the historical peak, recorded Wednesday morning around 7 a.m., was set at 38,910 MW. The grid performed very well.
Hydro-Québec expects this consumption record to be surpassed tomorrow morning when Québec's needs will exceed 39,500 MW. Hydro-Québec therefore reiterates its call to customers to reduce consumption during peak hours.
To give the utility a greater operating margin, Hydro-Québec is asking for continued efforts to reduce power consumption during the following peak periods:
- Wednesday, January 23: from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Thursday, January 24: from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Here are the most effective ways to reduce consumption:
- Lower the thermostat temperature by a degree or two (Celsius) in all rooms, especially those that are unused.
- Postpone using major appliances (especially dryers and dishwashers) by a few hours.
- Limit the use of hot water as much as possible.
Hydro-Québec has implemented the various means at its disposal to ensure continuity of service during this exceptional situation. The utility has also reduced heating and lighting in all of its buildings across Québec and the lights on the head office logo and the Mousseau mural are turned off.
Hydro-Québec sincerely thanks all its customers for their cooperation and will keep them informed of any new developments.
