/R E P E A T -- Honoré Mercier Bridge: one lane in each direction for the
next two weekends/
LONGUEUIL, QC, July 21 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) and the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) wish to remind that only one lane in each direction will be opened on the Honoré Mercier Bridge for the next two weekends from July 23 to 26 and from July 30 to August 2 (instead of August 6 to 9). In each case the closure will occur from Friday, 11:59 PM to Monday, 5 AM. Please note that one lane out of two will remain closed on the Mercier Bridge until 10 AM on Monday morning towards the South Shore.
The upstream part of the Honoré Mercier Bridge, which allows access to the South Shore (Route 138-West), will be completely closed to traffic during this period. Traffic will be re-directed to one lane in each direction on the downstream part of the bridge (Route 138-East) for all three weekends. The flow of traffic will be very slow during these two weekends, and motorists are encouraged to avoid the Honoré Mercier Bridge during this period.
We would also like to clarify that the Airlie ramp, which allows access to the Mercier Bridge towards the South Shore from Airlie Street, will be closed during the construction period.
These closures allow for important repairs of the deck to be made, as well as the reinforcement of the steel structure of the upstream part of the bridge, which is the section that, under normal circumstances, leads towards the South Shore.
Champlain Bridge: two lanes closed towards Montreal in the night of Friday to Saturday
Due to a broken joint, we must close two out of three lanes on the Champlain Bridge, towards Montreal, this Friday, July 23 at 11 PM until Saturday, July 24, at 7 AM. One lane will close starting at 9 PM. We ask motorists to take the Victoria or Jacques Cartier Bridges as alternate roads during Friday night to Saturday. These two options, although slightly remote from the Mercier Bridge, could be a good choices to avoid traffic.
No other closure for the Champlain Bridge is scheduled this weekend.
