MONTREAL, June 19, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - A solidarity rally in support of Radio Canada International (RCI) employees will be held on the patio in front of the CBC-Radio-Canada building in Montreal, Wednesday, June 20. As part of its budget cuts CBC/Radio-Canada slashed RCI's budget by 80%, and shut down its newsroom. After 67 years on the international airwaves, RCI will end its radio broadcast on June 24, and be left with only a web presence. Even with that, millions of listeners will be cut off from uncensored news from Canada, because Internet access is limited or blocked in many countries, such as China.
Wojtek Gwiazda, spokesperson for the RCI Action Committee and a host/producer in the English Service of RCI, and Alex Levasseur, president of the SCRC, will be speaking at the rally.
