/R E P E A T -- Invitation to the media - A first for Québec - Get ready to see—and smell—the "corpse flower" titan arum in all its splendour/ Français
MONTREAL, Nov. 14, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Montréal Space for Life invites members of the media to witness a spectacular natural phenomenon in the Botanical Garden's Orchids and Aroids Greenhouse: the stunning blooming of the titan arum (Amorphophallus titanum), one of the world's most fascinating plants.
Native to Indonesia, the specimen presented at the Botanical Garden is currently 120 cm tall and will flower soon.
In botanical gardens around the world where this plant is cultivated, thousands of visitors flock to behold this rare and fleeting event, as the flower generally lasts only between 48 and 72 hours. Due to the distinctive "fragrance" similar to the odour of rotting meat—strongest in the night during the flowering period—this variety is often better known as the "corpse plant."
Don't miss the chance to observe this phenomenon in the company of our experts.
