2010 Career Award/
MONTREAL, April 19 /CNW Telbec/ - As part of its 41st general meeting being held tomorrow in Montréal, the Conseil du patronat du Québec will honour Jacques Lamarre, former President and CEO of SNC-Lavalin and currently Strategic Advisor at Heenan Blaikie, by presenting him its 2010 Career Award, which acknowledges a distinguished person's exceptional contribution to Quebec society.
"Mr. Lamarre has over 40 years of experience managing and engineering major industrial projects," said. John LeBoutillier, chairman of the Conseil du patronat du Québec. "Under his direction, SNC-Lavalin made its mark as one of the world's leading civil engineering firms. The 2010 Career Award acknowledges Mr. Lamarre's numerous achievements and his exceptional contribution to the international expansion of Quebec expertise in the field of engineering."
This award marks its 28th anniversary this year. Over the years, it has been presented to André Chagnon, Jean Coutu, Paul Desmarais Senior, Stephen Jarislowsky, Bernard Lemaire and Guy St-Pierre, among others.
Entrepreneurs' Club: three new members
Three new members will also be inducted into the prestigious Entrepreneurs' Club of the Conseil du patronat du Québec:
- Hélène Desmarais, Chair of the Board and CEO of the Centre d'entreprises et d'innovation de Montréal, a business incubator that is dedicated to starting up and developing businesses in the information technology, multimedia, industrial technology and life sciences fields; - Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil, an internationally renowned Quebec company engaged in high quality artistic entertainment and the production of creative content; - Elliot Lifson, Vice-Chairman of Vêtements Peerless Clothing, a world leader in the manufacturing and marketing of outstanding clothing for men.
The Entrepreneurs' Club was created in 1986 with the goal of publicly acknowledging the exceptional contributions of business people to Quebec's economic development. To date, 69 key members of the business community have been honoured in this way by the Conseil du patronat du Québec.
First edition of the Ghislain Dufour Scholarship
Finally, Ghislain Dufour, former President of the Conseil du patronat du Québec, will present the first scholarship bearing his name. Created last December in conjunction with celebrations marking the organization's 40th anniversary, this award recognizes excellent work accomplished by a master's level student in industrial relations. The winner of this first edition of the Ghislain-Dufour Scholarship is Christine Houle, of the School of Industrial Relations at the Université de Montréal.
The Conseil du patronat du Québec (CPQ) is an association of Quebec's largest companies and the vast majority of sector-based employers' groups, making it the province's sole employers' confederation.
