TORONTO, Nov. 13, 2014 /CNW/ - The LCBO is offering nine nouveau wines for sale this year – including The Fool Reif Estate Gamay Nouveau from Ontario – starting on Thursday, November 20, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at more than 440 stores across the province.
The release of the Beaujolais Nouveau and other nouveau wines on the third Thursday of November marks LCBO's participation in the annual worldwide tradition of celebrating the first wines of the year's harvest.
Nouveau wines are historically one of the LCBO's fastest selling products and demand is very high at the time of release. For best selection, customers are encouraged to shop early with 10,600 cases available this year across Ontario.
In addition to the Ontario nouveau wine, six French and two Italian nouveau-style wines will also be released. The nouveau wines being offered this year are:

QUOTE
"The nouveau wines offer a first glimpse of what's to come from the 2014 vintage," says Bobby Panchu, LCBO Product Manager for European wines. "This is wine created for celebration. It's best enjoyed right away but will also last well for a six-week period to take you through the holiday entertaining season."
QUICK FACTS
- The nouveau wine tradition originated in France's Beaujolais region more than a century ago when local winemakers developed a fast-maturing wine to celebrate the harvest.
- Over the years, other regions have also started to produce nouveau wines. In the 1980's, Italy began exporting its vino novello and now Ontario produces gamay nouveau wines.
- The nouveau wines have a characteristic purple-pink colour, reflecting their fresh, fruity character and low tannins.
- These light red wines are best served slightly chilled and match well with lighter foods, such as appetizers. For the holidays, the wines pair well with turkey.
