You are cordially invited to this evening dinner conference Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Omni Hotel in Montreal on the importance of expanding access to palliative care and the dangers of implementating euthanasia in the Quebec law on l'Aide médicale à mourir(Medical Aid in Dying) , in Quebec, Canada and around the world.. This event is organized by the Coalition of Physicians for Social Justice.
Experts in medicine, law and psychology will present their case.
The main speakers are:
- Dr Balfour Mount (founder of palliative care at the Royal Victoria Hospital and North America)
- Dre Margaret Somerville (Director and Founder of the Faculty of Law, Medicine and Bioethics, McGill University)
- Dr Ronald Olivenstein (Medical Director of the Montreal Chest Institute)
- Pierre Faubert (psychologist)
Other witnesses include a dietician, clinical nurse, musical therapist and family caregiver.
The Honorary President is Noël Spinelli, philanthropist and citizen committed to the common good (citizenship, medicine, arts and music).
There will be an excerpt from the documentary "Les âges déboussolés"" by director Marie-Josée Cardinal.
The Coalition of Physicians for Social Justice is a non-profit Quebec-based physician organization founded in 1998 whose mission is high quality publicly-funded health care for all. Projects and achievements have included: free prescription drugs for low-income disabled persons, healthy economy and healthy families by producing and purchasing locally, eating assistance for the elderly, physical fitness for school age children; support for community hospitals like St. Joseph's in Lachine; improved access to family physicians and palliative care.
