Award-winning community outreach program returns to Ontario this summer - Official launch set for Wednesday, June 2, 2010 -

WHAT: Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) will announce details of the 2010 Be Smart. Be Safe. Tour, an award-winning community outreach program that is returning to Ontario for a sixth summer season. The entertaining and educational program was developed by IBC to prevent injuries and save lives. A special donation will be made to Safe Communities Canada. Don't miss the Lifejacket Fashion Show, which reminds boaters that every member of the family (even the dog!) should wear the proper personal flotation device (PFD). WHEN/WHERE: Wednesday, June 2, 12:30 p.m., at Toronto's Harbourfront, 249 Queens Quay West. (Look for the colourful Be Smart. Be Safe. trailers off of Queen's Quay between the Sirius Stage and the Natrel Pond - just north of the boardwalk) WHO: Paul Kells, President, Safe Communities Canada Ralph Palumbo, Vice-President, Ontario, IBC IBC student ambassadors, a team of Ontario university students who will take the Tour across Ontario HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TOUR: - The DUMB Car 2.0 simulator addresses a broad range of road safety issues including driving while distracted and in adverse weather, avoiding road hazards and identifying the point-of-no-return at traffic lights. - Two interactive exhibits show the public what they can do to adapt to climate change by using rain barrels and reducing the risk of sewer backups. - An educational display shows what should be included in an emergency preparedness kit in the event of a natural disaster. - An interactive exhibit teaches kids how to avoid common household injuries.
A light lunch will be available following the news conference.
