/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Ceremony marking the transfer of the Academy of Great Montrealers to the Ordre de Montréal/ Français
MONTRÉAL, Dec. 16, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Mayor of Montréal, Denis Coderre, and the Co-chair of the Ordre de Montréal council, Louise Arbour, and the President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal, Michel Leblanc, invite the media to attend a special ceremony at which 132 exceptional personalities having received the title of Great Montrealer will be given the new Ordre de Montréal award.
This noble and prestigious event promises to be a rich emotional experience. Each Great Montrealer will be given the Ordre de Montréal award in the rank of commandeur, the highest of the institution's three ranks.
The Ordre de Montréal was introduced on May 17, 2016, as a legacy of Montréal's 375th anniversary. Drawing on age-old traditions, the Ordre de Montréal seeks to recognize men and women who contribute in a remarkable way to the reputation of Montréal.
Through this formal act of transfer, the Ordre de Montréal will officially take over from the Academy of great Montrealers, which was created in 1988 by the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal, and which itself had taken over an initiative by the Canadian National in 1978.
